IMPASTO IS AVAILABLE NOW ON STEAM AND ITCH.IO

Following our brief release delay for Steam approval, Impasto is now officially out of Early Access, and is available now for everyone to play for FREE today on itch.io or on Steam! 

A full list of changes for our official release update can be found below, divided up by relevant area. 


CHANGELOG - 10/28/2022, FULL RELEASE UPDATE v1.0

  • GENERAL
    • First-person hands added (held objects no longer float)
    • Held objects will now "crouch" alongside player
    • Settings menu can now be accessed from within the pause menu in-game
    • Added sounds for applying and reverting settings in settings menu
    • Chapter select menu should now function properly, will prompt player to overwrite previous save file if a chapter is selected
    • Fixed bug where players could interact with objects in the game world while inventory was open
    • Fixed bug where players could interact with objects in the game world while pause menu was open
    • Improved ease of unlocking doors that require a key
    • Keys are now deleted from player inventory after use
    • Inventory item selection tutorial now scales properly with different resolutions
    • Pause menu now scales properly with different resolutions
    • Fixed bug where the player could lean when in dialogue
    • Fixed various bugs with pause menu and game audio
    • Fixed some issues with pausing when in inventory 
    • Player can no longer open pause menu when on death screen 
    • Fixed issues with pausing when in dialog
    • State of locked/unlocked doors is now saved 
    • Added missing SFX to pause and settings menus
    • Music will now fade out after player's death
    • Clarified via text in settings menu that brightness settings' effects will only be visible when adjusted from the pause menu within the game, and not in the main menu
    • Checkpoints will now save and restore player's rotation, not just position
    • Fixed issue where dialog UI would not scale properly at different resolutions
    • Re-baked and re-adjusted lighting across all scenes
    • Added custom application cursor
    • Added option to set an application framerate limit, default application framerate limit is now 60
    • Updated all settings menu dropdowns that were still using default Unity dropdowns to now use TextMeshPro dropdowns
    • Fixed issue where settings would not be retrieved properly  
  • INQUISITORS
    • Inquisitors can now detect player behind them, with a rear search radius of 9
    • Decreased Inquisitors' instant chase radius from 8 to 7
  • MAIN MENU
    • Fixed main menu UI not scaling properly to match height of 16:10 aspect ratio resolutions
    • Removed gap between top of screen and the settings and chapter sub-menu UIs
  • GOYA'S HOUSE
    • Replaced icon for zoom tutorial during carriage ride with a clearer icon indicating the right mouse button
    • Fixed odd collision around doorframes
    • Added rain
    • Limited the range of allowed camera movement during the carriage ride
    • Fixed issue where quest would disappear on restart
    • Village lights can now be seen from a distance once player has entered the portal
    • Added SFX to all inspectable objects in the house that previously had none (hat, cane, medallion, decree, doctor's note)
    • Added more variety to door SFX
    • Player's hand and arm are now visible during carriage ride
    • Fixed issue where handheld items would not be blurred alongside everything else when in object inspection mode
    • Adding missing portal transition stinger SFX
  • THE VILLAGE
    • Fixed bug where the barrel tutorial would be played more than once (for real this time)
    • Limited the range of allowed camera movement during the dialogues with The Blind Guitarist
    • Player can no longer return to stealth tutorial/Two Old Ones area after completing the quest "The Blind Guitarist"
    • Fixed floating wooden plank next to stealth tutorial area entrance
    • Barrel tutorial cutscene now only highlights the lid of the barrel to reduce confusion as to which part the player needs to interact with
    • Quest objective UI is now hidden during barrel tutorial cutscene
    • Fixed issues with pausing at start of village area interfering with music
    • Increased duration of iron gate open/close animations from 0.5s to 1s
    • Added SFX for the iron gates around the village
    • Fixed bug where the barrel tutorial would play twice
    • Added stealth music to barrel tutorial sequence
    • Guitar player no longer looks directly at you when in conversations
    • Decreased intensity of Two Old One's light
    • Replaced village exit sequence with an improved transition, player must now also walk out the gates themselves, also hid cursor during this cutscene 
    • Added a light to the Guitarist's campfire
    • Added missing flames to the candles in front of The Two Old Ones
  • THE LOST MELODY
    • Fixed the player being able to lean prior to reaching the lean tutorial
    • Fixed the player being able to enter certain off-limits areas of the map around the house containing the first music sheet, and added some decorations to these areas
    • Shortcut from "The Lost Melody" quest area back to the village center now closes following the completion of the quest
    • Checkpoint added after the player returns to the village center during "The Lost Melody" quest
    • Added audio for the falling planks during parkour section
    • Added howling wind sound during latter parkour section
    • Added dock wind ambiance sound to pier/docks area
    • Added missing SFX for inspecting music sheets (prior to placing them in inventory)
    • Stealth music now ends properly once player enters the music sheet house
    • Modified flow of objectives for this quest to help prevent players from becoming stuck
    • Removed bumpy collision on music sheet house stairs
    • Added more lighting to the elevated stealth section prior to the music sheet house to make spotting enemies easier
  • THE CHURCH DISTRICT
    • Fixed mismatching wall on left side of Church District
    • Corrected rotation of Church District watchtowers
    • Fixed odd collision blocker on top of stairs near the front entrance to Church District
    • Fixed collisions around Church District fences
    • Gate to district now closes properly following the barrel stowaway cutscene
    • Added audio to stowaway barrel cart
    • Fixed bug where Goya's house key would appear in inventory instead of the graveyard key
    • Updated model for graveyard key, and added SFX
    • Graveyard gate unlocking now functions the same as in Goya's house 
    • Replaced puzzle hint map with clearer instructions for players who are stuck
    • Replaced texture of puzzle balls to match with new puzzle map texture
    • Added missing theme for the hidden vault
    • Changed teleportation point and direction when leaving vault and returning to The Guitarist
    • Adjusted required interaction time for Goya portrait easter-egg
    • Added missing SFX for vault door opening
    • Added missing SFX for unlocking, opening, and attempting to open the graveyard gate
    • Added missing SFX for puzzle and puzzle map
    • Improved appearance of Saturn's escape tunnel
    • Fixed bug where stealth music would continue to play after player has entered the graveyard
    • Improved flow of the quest objectives for this area 
    • Entrance to sewer is now blocked off after talking to Judith to reduce player confusion
    • Fixed Judith's dialogue to point the player in the correct direction
    • Hid crosshair and quest objective UI during vault opening cutscene
    • Judith now disappears properly after the player returns from the Church District
    • Adjusted start and end locations for stealth music for this area
    • Lowered the detection range of the inquisitor between the gallows and the graveyard gate
  • SATURN'S CAVE
    • Replaced skybox for exterior temple scene
    • Added distance lighting fog to exterior temple scene, & modified in-scene particle fog color to match new skybox
    • Added wilderness SFX to temple exterior scene
    • Added torch SFX
    • The player's dropped torch now only appears on the floor following the cutscene with Saturn if they had the torch equipped prior to starting the cutscene
    • Fixed tiling on some parts of the cave to get rid of blurry textures
    • Reduced volume of music for this section so that Saturn's audio can be heard better
    • Darkened blood color
    • Adjusted speed of Saturn animations to better match with movement speed
    • Improved flow of chase sequence 
    • Fixed slight hovering on spawn in throne room area
    • Improved terrain in throne room area for a more natural feel
    • Improved appearance of player torch
    • Removed load screen in between ending throne room scene and credits, and added new transition between those scenes
    • Improved effect for ending painting transition 
    • Hid cursor during Saturn introduction cutscene
  • ACCESSIBILITY
    • Subtitles added for the Goya letter narration during opening carriage ride (can be toggled on or off from settings menu)
  • MISC
    • Removed Early Access version number
    • Loading screen now scales properly with different resolutions
